Yardworks Bulb Planter

Share and Enjoy:

I use this simple but handy tool every year when I plant impatients in my front yard. I buy grown impatients, not seeds, so each one requires digging a small hole in the ground for transplanting. This bulb planter makes digging such holes very easy. It is a hollow metal cylinder with a handle on top; as you press it to the ground and push on the handle, the cylinder cuts our a neat, round hole of just the right size. The soil gets stuck inside the cylinder and is easily pulled out. Then you just shake the cylinder, making it release the soil, and you are ready to make another hole.

With the help of this bulb planter, I usually get the job done within one day. It requires some physical strength, and my muscles feel a little sore on the next day, but it would have been much worse if I had to dig each hole without it. I greatly recommend it for planting and transplanting flowers.

Oops, I've just noticed that mine has gotten a little bent! Not sure what caused it: a lot of usage or maybe something heavy had fallen on it during winter storage in the shed... It still works fine though.

  3. Every year when I plant bulbs in the fall and dig each hole with a shovel, I vow to get on of these the next year. I will admit I never thought to use it to dig the holes for transplants, I have always used a shovel but this makes so much sense. Now I will get one this spring, thanks.

  9. we do our fair share of bulb planting, and usually just stick with a simple "hand" tool, namely, my hand!! But this sounds like a nice tool to help make the process a little better...will keep it in mind!

  10. I don't plant flowers, but this sounds like a really handy tool to have for any one that does plant. Sounds like you would not want to plant without it

  11. My Mom and I always planted impatiens plants in our garden. They are so versatile, they will grow as well in a shaded area as a sunny one. This tool sounds ideal for planting this type of plant. Thanks for the info.
