State Farm Renter's Insurance

Share and Enjoy:

I moved down to Florida from Michigan almost two years ago right after I graduated college.  It's hard to believe I have lived here in Florida for that long already away from my family.  Time sure has flown by.  I realized when I got down here I had to grow up, become a big girl, and get renter's insurance for my apartment.  I think it's definitely needed here in Florida because the crime rate is high and you also have bad weather, along with the hurricanes.

I had never had to get renter's insurance before so I wasn't quite sure what to do.  My family has had their insurance through State Farm for as long as I can remember so I called them up and explained to them what I needed and they were very helpful in getting my insurance set up.

I currently pay right around $25 a month and for that I have a personal property coverage/limit of almost $26,000.  That is more than enough to cover my possessions in my opinion.  I have a $500 deductible for all losses and then a $500 deductible for losses caused by a hurricane.  I also have $500,000 in personal liability insurance as well.  Now I'm not really a big insurance guru so I'm not sure if these are the best coverages or even if I'm getting a good deal but they seem like it to me and I'm happy.

Recently I moved out of my old apartment and into a new one closer to work.  I simply called up my local State Farm office and advised them of my move.  All they needed were some specs on my new apartment and my new address and my policy was changed and ready to go!

I am looking to switch my car insurance to State Farm which will hopefully give me a discount on my Renter's.  Sometimes State Farm can be on the expensive side, but they are definitely worth looking into if you have them in your area.

  1. This is important coverage to have when you are a renter. A lot of renters fail to see the necessity of insurance, because they don't own the property, but fail to remember that replacing your possessions in the event of a disaster can be costly without insurance.

  2. One very important thing I told my daughter was to be certain your renters insurance covers replacement value of any stolen or damaged items. Some places won't and it hurts you badly.

    1. I believe mine does but I will have to check to make sure. Thank you for the insight. :o)

  4. I always tell my friends who live in apartments to purchase renter's insurance-you never know what might happen! You're obviously a responsible person to do this!

  5. Good thing to have if you rent. I think you will probably get a good bundle deal with your car insurance added too.

  7. Good for you for getting renter's insurance! My daughter's father did NOT get renter's insurance, and the apartment complex he was living in caught on fire, burning 32 units altogether. Nobody was injured, but my daughter lost everything she had been storing at her father's house as a result, with only the charity donations of other people to begin replacing it.

  8. Renter's insurance is a great thing to have. My dad advised me to get it when I moved into an apt while I was still in college. I never had to use it, but it gave me a feeling of security that is was there if anything happened. Glad things have worked out so well for you and State Farm.
