So take the average family of 4 and try to take a trip to disney.. kind of pricey right... wrong! My boyfriend and I signed up for this package deal called the Disney Vacation Club. Its this great program that works off of a point system. We purchased the minimum amount of points which was 150. It was all we could afford at the time but we definately plan to up the point value when we have the oppurtunity. You have the option of adding points all the way up to 2000! Wow!
You work off of a point system. You receive the purchased amount of points every year. If you are not planning on taking a vaca that year you are allowed to roll over 1 year's worth of points into the next year. You can also borrow points from the upcoming year to use in the present if you need more points.
You don't have to stay a solid 8 days 7 nights everytime you use this. If you are local here in Florida (like I am) you can use some points for just one night or a weekend for a small quick getaway. All you have to do is call them up so that they can send your information to the hotel of your choice.
These points can also be used on the disney cruise lines and alaskan cruise lines, as well as several different hotels that partner up with disney, making it available all over the world. All I have to do is call my travel coordinator and give them the list of hotels that I chose from the list provided and she will tell me the availablity and book it for me. It sounds more complicated than it is really, but we love it all the same. My boyfriend and I went to Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa for a one night stay and decided to stay another night. They were able to keep us in our same room and let us stay for one more night, hassel free. It was great. I love this package and would recommend it all day long. It may sound like alot of money but you have it for 48 years! It's truly a great deal.

When my grandson gets a bit older and I know he will remember it; we are taking him to Florida to Disney World. Thanks for sharing this information.
I would love to become a member of the Disney Vacation club but don't have the $15,000 nor do I really think I would be approved for the payment plan ref to my credit. It is a great deal though as it lasts 48 years....I think you can definitely get your use out of it! And how great was it that you were able to just tack on another day to your stay with absolutely no hassle at all?! That's perfect! :o)
This sounds like a great idea. Great way to save for a vacation and I like the flexibility of it! Thanks for the information.
Are the association fees $50 a month regardless of how many points you hold or do people pay more or less fees based on the points that they own?
Being huge Disney fans, we have looked at DVC many times. With our lifestyle (military-always moving), it hasn't worked for us yet. Thanks for all of your information. I am always interested in how satisfied others are with their DVC membership.
I've done the math many, many times. I really want to see a discount here but I just don't. The association dues are $50 a month x 12 months = $600. For $600, I can go to a Value resort for 7 nights (at rack rates which I NEVER pay) or a Moderate resort for 4 nights (at rack room rates which again I NEVER pay).
