Are You Lost?

Share and Enjoy:

When I moved to Oregon last year with my husband, I didn't know where in the world I was going, what streets were one way, and the easiest route to my new job, so I borrowed my sister's Tom Tom (GPS) for about 6 months. My dad came out to visit us shortly before Christmas and realized that I was using my sister's GPS and that I needed one for myself. About 2 weeks later the Garmin came in the mail from my Dad. Let me tell you this is the BEST present I have ever received.

I still don't know where I am going sometimes, especially if it's somewhere we have never been so I just pull out the Garmin, punch in my address, let it find a sattalite, and on my way I go!

The Garmin is great for directions but it can also be used to find the closest gas station, restuarants (both by what type of food and overall search of all resturants in the area), and even the closest shopping mall. All you need to do is either put in the address you are looking for or chose point of interest and then let it know what type of place your looking for and it will find it for you.

Like most GPS systems you will have some problems with trying to find satalite and believe me my sister's TOm Tom was great at taking a while to find one or it would loose satalite in the weirdest places... ie: a busy highway or a clear parking lot. Surprisingly, the Gamin has had minimal saltalite problems except when you first turn it on. I haven't experienced the problem with it loosing satalite too much (and we took it into the woods by the beach).

The only problem that I have with it is that sometimes it gets lost... YES... you heard right. The GPS gets lost and will have to recalculate itself on more than one occasion while driving. The good thing though is it quickly gets back on track with it's directions.

Some other cool features on the Garmin are: a) Built-in travel kit which includes features such as picture viewer, world clock, currency and measurement converters and a calculator; b) Displays both 2D and 3D map perspectives; c) USB interface for downloading additional map data; d) Includes suction cup mount, DC adapter, dashboard disk and set-up-and-go guide; and e)  Garmin Lock antitheft feature disables the unit from performing any functions until you type in your 4-digit PIN or take the unit to a predetermined location.

I recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a GPS system. It's the best gift ever!

  1. Sounds like your Dad you the perfect present. Boy do I need one of these. I am famous for getting lost. Thanks for letting me know that sometimes these need to recalculate themselves, I had no idea this could happen with a GPS system and I would have freaked out if it happened to me and I was unprepared.

  9. Aren't Dads the greatest? What a wonderful gift. I'm fairly sure I could get lost with or without a GPS system, though. I'd probably crash the car trying to read the screen. I'm pretty scary behind the wheel once I get outside my little town! LOL!
