Safety First outlet covers

Share and Enjoy:

I have one- and two-year old children.  Needless to say, babyproofing is critical in our home.  One of the safety precautions we have taken is to purchase outlet covers for all of our unused outlets.

These little plastic pieces fit perfectly into any outlet, covering all three holes and prohibiting little fingers from entering.  Because they are plastic, there is no danger of being shocked when you put them in or take them out.   They work really well and are impossible for children to remove.

On the downside, they can be a little difficult for adults to remove too.   They can also serve as choking hazards for children.  Once while vacuuming I put the outlet cover on a chair (I know, bad move) and soon found my toddler sucking on it.  So, as long as you are careful not to leave them laying around (I now place them in my pocket while using an outlet) you should have no worries.

These are very inexpensive, and a very good idea to have in all your outlets if you have little ones in your home.

  1. At one time I had so many outlet covers I could have opened my own store! Most of them are at my daughter's house now, because she does day care for a toddler. Now I wished that I'd kept them! They kept a lot of draft from coming in through the outlets.

  2. We had these all over the house when the kids were small. When we were blessed with grandkids the first thing I did when they started crawling was go and buy these for all the outlets. This is such an important thing and very inexpensive item to keep them safe.

  5. I thought I was the only one-sometimes, it has been hard for me to remove the plugs-that's the sign of a good plug!!!

  6. I use these as well - another thing to watch out for is as you use the same outlet (for example, while vacuuming) and keep taking out and replacing the same cover over and over, the fit will get looser over time, which makes it easier for little hands to remove...

  7. I too used this when my sons are very young to have a peace of mind . I am so worried that out of curiosity they may poke things into those outlets.
