WWE Summerslam 2004 DVD

Share and Enjoy:
The Summerslam 2004 PPV DVD is a very interesting one, ever since this event fans have been more likely to boo the faces (nice guys) and cheer for the heels (bad guys)

Let's get under way with the match reviews for this DVD.

Rey Mysterio, Paul London & Billy Kidman vs. Spike Dudley, Bubba Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley in a 6 man tag match

This match was an excellent choice as an opener and got the crowd real excited, this is how I think cruiserweights should be utilized, the team of Mysterio, London and Kidman headed most the action in that department. I kind of feel that the Dudley Boyz (Bubba and Dvon) didn't get enough offence in this match which shouldn't be as they are probably the greatest tag team in the history of profesional wrestling. A solid match, but short.

Match Rating: 6.5

Matt Hardy vs. Kane

A short match filled with alot of action, nice work by both men here, I liked the unique ending to the match, I am a fan of this match, but just like the last match it was short. This match will be forgotten largely due to the lack luster storyline behind this one.

Match Rating: 6.5

Booker T vs. John Cena

This match was interesting because pretty much all of it was inside of the ring, now usually that would be a positive but not for these two men, maybe if it was Kurt Angle or Eddie Guerrero, for these two they really needed to spend some time on the outside for a bit of street action which suits their characters more. Nothing special about this match, a little boring, not much too it. But I was still entertained. All matches have been short thus far.

Match Rating: 6

Intercontinental Championship: Jericho vs. Edge vs. Batista

This match was remembered for the face, Edge getting booed by his own home crowd. The match was like the first 2 matches, alot of action, fast paced, but short. An entertaining match of what there was. I might be a little generous in this rating.

Match Rating: 7

Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle

Here we go, finally a match which is given proper time. Another classic by these two repeating what they did at Wrestlemania 20. The crowd again in this match decided to boo the face Eddie Guerrero which now looking back at it annoyed me but the crowd were not aware of what would happen next year. A solid technical match which I enjoyed, the first time I watched it I didn't like it as much but after watching it again, very solid.

Match Rating: 8.5

Diva Dodgeball

Ok, so this was taped, this must have annoyed the people who bought tickets to Summerslam having to watch this on a the screen instead of seeing it live. This was boring. Should have been thrown on WWE.com instead of PPV. Another waste of precious time, this time could have been used to make the first few matches longer.

Match Rating: N/A

Triple H vs. Eugene

Well, if you are new to wrestling you would wonder why Eugene would be facing one of the WWEs top stars on one of the WWEs top PPV events, well at the time Eugene was quite popular (though that didn't stop the crowd from booing him) This was also great to see because he hadn't seen Triple H not headline an event in quite a while at that time. The match was very solid, the man behind Eugene, Nick Dinsmore can really wrestle well and made this entertaining. They both did well. I really liked this match. Solid stuff. The crowd was really involved.

Match Rating: 7.5

WWE Championship: John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker

A very long and draw out match with a disappointing finish, the crowd seemed uninterested as they did a Mexican wave half way through the match. This was just a brawl which was actually quite entertaining for some parts, it just dragged on though. What happens after the match might satisfy a few people. People might think I'm overrating this one.

Match Rating: 7

World Heavyweight Championship: Benoit vs. Orton

Quite a technical match up, a lot of ring based action, this match was a tad boring in parts, the end was excellent and out of nowhere. Another great performance by Benoit and Orton did well to keep up. A historical match up despite not being the greatest ever will always be remembered. I liked this match but it required a fair bit of close concentration.

Match Rating: 8

Conclusion: This event really felt rushed and it didn't have to be, if they shortened The Layfield vs. Taker match and got rid of Diva Dodgeball then it would habe been normal. The advantage of it being rushed is that means some matches will have extra pace and action which I am a fan of. This event could have been so much better but it was still an alright event.
