My family loves to go "upnorth" to my father's cabin at least once every summer. One of the highlights for the kids, besides going to the beach, is the nightly campfire. And, they never fail to ask for popcorn made over the fire in our Whirlypop Campfire Popcorn maker.
It is a 4-qt. aluminum non-stick pot, with a 2 ft. long(foldable for storage) handle. We got it at Amazon.com for $29.99. It came with 5 popcorn kits consisting of popcorn, buttery salt, and oil. These are long since gone, of course. Replacements can be bought from the manufacturer, Wabash Family Farms, who boast of their special popcorn. We just use a package of any store-bought popcorn, and a little oil.
The gimmick on this is the small hand crank, with which you turn to keep "stirring" the popcorn in the pot. In less than 3 minutes you have 4 qts. of crisp and tender, delicious popcorn. It's not greasy/mushy like microwave popcorn, and it only takes about the same amount of time. Of course the kids think that it's fun to make, and fight over whose turn it is.
Clean up is easy, just wipe out the non-stick interior. This can also be used indoors, over a fireplace. And the original stovetop version is also available, minus the long handle, of course, and about $6 cheaper. Highly recommended!

I've seen the ones for use on the stove, but not for the fire. How do you crank it without having to stand too near the fire? I just have one that you shake.
My kids would love this. i will remember to look for this. Thanks
This sounds like so much fun sitting around the fire with family or friends.
