flatbed scanner still producing sharp images

Share and Enjoy:

A little older but still a quality flatbed scanner.  Simple buttons allow the users to the most common functions: copy, scan to (application selectable from the scanner), and e-mail.  This is great for my dad that can set a picture down on the machine, click e-mail and it will scan and attach the photo to an e-mail.  This model is a little bulky at 13"W x 22.5"D x 4.1"H.

Image Quality: It can scan images at 2400dpi optical resolution with a 48bit color (24bit is considered photographic quality).  While you typically do not scan at the maximum this is very important when you are scanning slides to get the maximum image quality results.

Speed:  This scanner has average speed, but previews are quicker because of a dedicated 600 dpi CCD.

Added Feature: This model also includes a transparency adapter allowing scans of 35mm negatives and slides.

Missing Feature:  This does not include the automatic document feeder.  You have to go up a model for that $100 accessory to be included.

Conclusion:  If you find one on craigslist or at a garage sale it is not too bad.  If your after something smaller, or multifunction (maybe including a document feeder) look elsewhere.  This is why I replaced this model with my new printer/copier/scanner/fax.

  1. Thanks JB for breaking the components of this scanner down for us. It helps us see what is missing, what works and what doesn't. I can see why you went to a different model clearly now.

  2. This HP flatbed scanner doesn't sound like a bad product until I look at the price. I have to agree with you that this is something that would be great if it could be picked up for a deal on Ebay or Craigslist, but not so much for just a hair under $300.

  3. Thanks for the information. I have an HP scanner and love it but I do a lot of negatives and slides.
