PAF family history software

Share and Enjoy:
I found a great genealogy program to use for family history.!  It's called Personal Ancestral File 5.2 and PAF Companion 5.2  You can order the CD from familysearch.org for only $8.25.  With the CD you also get the PAF companion which allows you to print charts, reports and family group records, including large wall charts.  If you don't want the CD version, they do allow you to download the free version from the website.

Our family has kept written genealogical information for many years and with this program I was able to save all that written information on my computer and on a CD to protect the family history for generations to come.  I am also able to share all this information with others in our family; by having them download the program and transferring the information to their computer, simply and easily.  Most genealogy files are PAF type files, so this makes it easy to share information with others.

The program gives you all the fields you would possibly need to record information on the family, including pictures, sound clips and video!  The program allows me to have to only type each person's information once and then I just have to link that information to a particular family.  The information templates are customizable to my preference.  There is a place to add notes for any information you care to add.  I usually include any information that may be interesting to someone, such as what the person did for a living, if they had any important achievements, that sort of thing.  This makes for a more interesting record than just names and dates.  Pictures, sound clips and video can be added, but that information has to be saved on your computer or a separate disc, because it doesn't save it in the program.  When I receive information from others or visa versa, the program allows you to match/merge duplicate entries.  I am able to search by name or number and print pedigrees, groups, or lists of names. If I would need to, I could type names and places using characters from any language, and view screens and print reports in either English, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or Swedish.

System Requirements are: Windows 95B, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP or Windows 95A with Microsoft Internet Explorer. Pentium PC or iMac with a Windows emulator. 32 MB memory (64 MB recommended), 32 MB to 72 MB hard-disk space, 256-color display adapter supporting at least 800 x 600 screen resolution.

  10. At one time I was really into the "family tree". I hit a wall and stopped searching. I need to look into this software. It isn't a bad price either. Thanks for sharing this information.
