I work freelance and don't have a lot of documents about my income. But I can pay for what I credit to my card, I just can't prove it.
When I was getting frustrated at being turned down by card companies, HSBC made an offer. I was at the right place at the right time. The sign up offer at that time was a P1,500 ($35) gift cheque for a shoe store.
Ever since I had been using it, I am so happy with it. I have opted for the internet billing, and so I get my statements on time. They have gone the extra mile for security by sending me a gadget that generates a series of numbers. I could not access my account if I don't have that gadget.
Their phone banking service is also impeccable--very fast response for inquiries and problems.
Their annual rate is very small at P1,200, roughly $30, and we can opt to have it waived. It is subject for approval, but hey, the requirements are easy.
For my purchases, I get mileage for a local airlines. Sometimes, they also have referral programs and the referror gets some goodies.
I know your frustration... I freelance as well, but am more than capable of making payments, and my husband works full-time... still, I've been finding it impossible to get a credit card in my own name... which means I can't really build up a credit rating either. :( Thanks for the info!
If the perks add up to more than the annual fee I think this would be good.
It understand what you mean about being a freelancer. Glad you were able to find a card that worked for you.
Well at least you managed to find something that you can use to build credit
I also have HSBC Mabuhay Miles Visa card, since 2007, and still find it very helpful up to present in purchasing especially when I’m out of cash. I even used it in large amount transaction, like purchasing local plane ticket and I was able to use it to buy laptop in installment basis at ZERO interest. I haven’t use their online billing because my billing statement arrives in the office way ahead the due date and paying is also easy through other banks and through their easy pay machine. I missed to convert my earned mileage point last year, I only need few more points to convert it, so this time I’ll keep tract of my points.
i like hsbc too. i got a savings account with them.
