Holiday Inn Express

Share and Enjoy:

My family and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in State College PA for a long weekend. My husband was there on a business trip for 2 weeks, so the kids and I went and stayed with him for four nights over the weekend.

The hotel is in a very nice place called Williamsburg Square. In this complex is three hotels - the Holiday Inn Express, the Springhill Suites by Marriot, and the Hampton Inn and Suites. Plus there is an office building and two restaurants - the Outback Steakhouse and the Olive Garden. My husband's company put him up in the Holiday Inn Express because that is where his work training class was being held daily. The business center was very nice.

This hotel was nice and clean. There was a nice, hot, free breakfast daily. There were free beverages throughout the day (iced tea, lemonade, coffee). The room was kept clean and we always had plenty of towels and things. This hotel didn't have a swimming pool, which was a huge drawback with the kids. Being that all 3 hotels were owned by the same company we asked if we could use the other 2 hotel's pools. We never did get a straight answer, so we just tried it. The Springhill said it was fine and let us right in. The Hampton gave us a hard time, but did eventually let us.

There didn't really seem to be a whole lot to do right in State College. It is home to the Penn State main campus. We drove down to Hershey PA one day since we were within 2 hours of there. There are several underground Caves/Caverns in central PA, so we drove to one of those one day also, only being 30 minutes away.

Overall, a very nice upscale hotel. But if we had to stay in the area again I think we would try to stay at one of the other 2 hotels since they have the pools and they all seemed like very nice hotels.

I believe the rate was around $140 per night.
