Comfort Inn, Detroit Airport Stay And Fly Package

Share and Enjoy:

My husband and I recently went on vacation and had to drive ourselves to the airport. We were leaving out of Detroit, Michigan and wanted to stay somewhere close to the airport so they could shuttle us over to the airport in the early hours of the morning.

I wasn't as concerned about the hotel room as much as I was how secure the parking was and how much it would cost. I started looking around online, but no website was giving me the answers I needed. I ended up calling the Comfort Inn Metro Airport hotel to get a definite answer.

The lady on the phone said it was going to be $79 for a one-night stay and up to 7 days of parking. She said we did not actually park at the hotel for the long-term parking, but they had a secure garage down the road where we would be parking. I went ahead and booked over the phone with her, and the transaction went very smoothly.

The Hotel:

I asked for a non-smoking room with a king-sized bed. The lady I booked with said that she didn't have any standard rooms left, so she upgraded and booked us a room with a HUGE hot tub for the same price! I told her we did not know what time we would be checking in, so we had to hold the room with a credit card number. That way we could check in as late as we wanted. Good thing we did because we didn't end up getting there until about 8pm!

The room was very nice. The bathroom was a standard bathroom except it had a sliding window that when opened had access to the hot tub and view of the rest of the room.

The hot tub was HUGE! I didn't think there would even be close to enough hot water to fill it up, but there was plenty. It took about 10 minutes for the tub to fill up enough to turn the jets on. There was plenty of room for my hubby and I to sit with our legs extended and the water up to our collarbone.

The bed was nice too. It wasn't anything special, but it wasn't rock hard either. The pillows were fluffy and the sheets were comfortable. It was a bit warm in the room so we took one blanket off and cranked the air condition up. We were fine after that.

The Parking:

When the lady said it was a secure garage we were going to park in, I thought it was a typical multi-layer parking garage with gates and whatnot. Well, it ended up being a big parking lot surrounded by a fence. At first I was too happy, but I was very happy overall. The lot is run by a different company, and they have a contract with Comfort Inn to package the hotel stay and parking together.

We had to drive to the lot and park first thing in the morning. A shuttle came over to where we had parked and picked us up and took us to the airport. The lot is very secure with tall fences, lots of lights, and a 24-hour entrance security building. You can not get into the lot unless you check-in and they let the gate up.

When we got back from our trip it was very late at night, just after midnight. The shuttles were still running and met us in the pick-up area. They took us right to our car and helped us get our bags out. All we had to do was hand the person at the gate our ticket and we were all set. We didn't have to pay anything because we had already paid for it in the cost of the room.

Overall we were very happy with our hotel and parking stay. The only thing we were not happy with was the continental breakfast. Although it did start at 4am so we could eat before our early flight, but it was mostly cold breads and cereal. The only hot thing was toast and bagels.

  1. Sounds nice. I've never stayed in Detroit, and am not sure I will, but I'll keep this in mind! Thanks for the info!

  2. Well, that's pretty handy - to have the hotel provide secure parking for an extended stay, even if you weren't sure about just a fence and gate. The parking at Detroit Metro can be pretty remote even with all the work they've done there. This sounds like a good option.

  3. I think its great info. Having to use Detroit Metro to fly out of, I too worry about parking and a decent place to stay. I had no idea that a package like this even existed. Although we are broke from our recent trip to Disney I will keep this in mind for future vacations. Great Tip!
