Fujitsu hard drive lasted good three years

Share and Enjoy:
On my laptop I had a Fujitsu MHT2030AT ATA-6 30GB drive. Happily, it lasted for three years and I got extensive use out of it.

From memory, the Fujitsu MHT2030AT worked fine. In the end, it died on me, but considering the amount of use I put it through, that shouldn't be anything to sneeze at.

The Fujitsu drive was nice and quiet, with the most noise it made was the crunching sound a drive makes when it is running through accessing itself along the platter (i.e. when it is working on something).

The drive actually was a replacement Dell gave me -- I do not remember what I had before, but that went dead within 6 months. I think it was a Toshiba, although I would be surprised and impressed if it was the same Fujitsu drive considering the differing experiences.

The drive gave me little in the way of problems, but I will speak poorly of Fujitsu's customer service. I called their Replacement Drive program three times waiting to be called back. I finally realized I had to email them to get any response, and that response was, to be fair, prompt.

The drive wasn't eligible for replacement, but it did still give me three good years of service. Tiny by today's standards, but you can pick one up for about $48 new today.

  1. I'm not sure that I would call three years good for a hard drive to last. I expect them to hang in there for a lot longer!

  2. I agree with Shark on that. I expect a good 5 or more years of good wear out of any hard drive and get it normally. The only time my drives failed was when hacked or hit by a virus.

  3. 3 years is a very short life for a hard disk. I would steer clear of the Fujitsu drive.
