I bought this book several years ago after the beautiful picture on the cover caught my eye. It has since become my gardening bible, with many self-written notes in the margins! At the time, I was just starting to garden, so needed something that was easy to use but contained all the information I needed. This book fit the bill!
Treasury of Gardening is a large encyclopedia of various gardening techniques, flowers, pests, and more, written by several horticulturalists and gardening specialists. It is broken down into 6 main sections: Landscape Design, Annuals, Perennials (including trees and shrubs), Specialty Gardens (which includes shade gardens, rose gardens, bulb gardens, etc), and Vegetables and Herbs. There are fabulous illustrations on different gardening techiniques including staking plants, overwintering plants, mulching, designing beds, etc.
My favorite part, however, is the encyclopedia at the end of each major section. There are beautiful pictures of every plant you can think of, with a historical description, plant description, how to gorw paragraph, propagation, ease of care index, uses and related varieties. I have bought many books over the years, and never have I found such an aesthetically pleasing book that was so thorough in its information as well.
Definitely this book is a must-have for ALL gardeners, novice or experienced!!
This sounds like something my mom would love. Thanks
Yep, it's Publications International, Ltd. You can find copies of the older version on Amazon, but the 2000 edition that I have I haven't been able to find online (admittedly I didn't really look that hard).
This would make a great gift for gardeners.
A friend of mine has this, and it is her favorite garden reference book too.
I need all the help i can get with my garden.
My mother-in-law has this book-it's so beautiful!
