AAA Insurance was in the cards, but...

AAA actually is a highly rated insurer here in my home state, and the free insurance quote process was relatively painless. The quote provided also was fair and it put AAA in the running. However, there were a few things I was turned off by.
First and foremost, to get AAA insurance, you must be a AAA member according to their website. That meant I would have been tacking on about $30 in a driver assistance program that I felt I did not need. I have a relatively new car and I know what to do if I get into any trouble. I also don't lock myself out of my car or have a real need for this extra coverage unless it was fairly cheap.
I also thought that while the quote process was painless, the quote I got for the insurance policy I was looking for was a little more than what I wanted to pay. It was a fair quote until one considers they also need to buy into the AAA driver assistance program. I'm sure this assistance program is a lifesaver for those who do not know how to change their own tires or have an older model car that is less reliable. It just didn't fit into what I personally needed.
Again, AAA seems like a good insurer and a local report on insurance companies rated them highly according to responses from body shops and claims processing.
However, the price point was steeper than what I could find with their competitors. That is what primarily sunk them.
Maybe next time, AAA. Maybe next time.
