Frost & Glow Highlighting Kit

Share and Enjoy:

I have been highlighting my hair at home for several years now.  Ever since high school a couple friends and I would get together, pop in a good chick flick, and do each other's hair.  It was great fun to be together, it cost about 1/3 of salon prices, and I would have to say, we all looked pretty cute by the end of the day.  :)

Over the years I've tried a number of different hair kits. Last time I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and decided to give Revlon Frost & Glow Highlighting Kit for Blonde to Light Brown Hair a try since it was on sale for only $9.99!  Overall, it's not the very best one I've tried, but it is still quite good.  And for $9.99, I have no complaints!

The Revlon kit is a cap-and-hook style system, which I really like. It takes longer than comb-in dyes, but unlike those, cap kits are straightforward and completely fool-proof.  You always get even colour exactly where you want it, instead of in clumps mostly around the top of your head!  And like a lot of other kits, this one had sections printed on the cap to help you concentrate the highlights in different areas for different effects.

I think the thing that impressed me the most about this kit was the smell.  I rated it 3 out of 5 because, let's face it, hair dye never smells good!  However, this one was definitely the least-offensive of all the ones I've tried.

Ingredients I left blank, because I don't know a lot about what's bad and good or, shall I say, bad and not-so-bad in a hair dye. I've never had a problem with highlighting kits damaging my hair, though.  I think most are pretty safe if you use them right and don't dye your hair too frequently.

The one thing I didn't like about this kit compared to others was the quantity of the shampoo and conditioner after-treatments provided.  There was barely enough for me to wash out my hair properly afterwards.  I do have thick hair, but I still think they were too stingy.  Also, this kit only included conditioner for the first wash.  Most other kits include a small bottle of moisturizing, colour-enhancing conditioner that can be used for a couple weeks after the fact.

But overall this was a good kit, and I would recommend it if you already use colour-safe shampoo on a regular basis, or if you're new to highlighting and just want to try something cheeper to see how you like it.
