Dragonfly Electric Potpourri Simmer Pot

I received this very pretty dragonfly ceramic electric simmer pot as a Christmas gift.

If you have never seen one, the pot is designed with a light bulb “hidden” in the base. The light bulb heats up, which warms the water and potpourri (or liquid potpourri) in the cup that sits on the top. This gentle warming is enough to release the scent into the air. It is safer than using a standard candle and although it is electric, it is a small bulb.

Now… I have a confession… This simmer pot is just so pretty that I have used it decoratively only! I do have some potpourri that I could simmer in it… but I have not done so.

The piece is an off white ceramic with painted greenery… ferns and leaves. The painted greenery are very delicate and finely detailed. Up close, you can see the veins in the leaves. The greenery goes across both the bottom of the base and the bottom of the cup that sits atop the base.

Also on the base, but on the upper portion, are dragonflies and stems with flowers… but the wings of the dragonflies and the buds of the flowers are actually cutouts, so that when you plug in the base these areas are lit. This is very beautiful.

There are also some circle cutouts on the bottom of the base to let some of the heat escape from the bulb.

The cord is about 4 feet long. While this does limit where it can be placed to use as an actual simmer pot, it really isn’t the type of item that should have a long cord for safety reasons… but, just as I do, you really do not need to have it plugged in to appreciate it so you could find a nice spot for it and then just move it closer to an outlet when you want use it as it was intended.

I received one of these as a gift and used it daily for a very long time. Suddenly one day it cracked and fell in pieces, which none of us could quite figure out, as to why.
