Alpaca Rugs Make Nice Wall Hangings

This is our second Alpaca Rug Art wall hanging. Our first was very similar, a 4 x 5 foot eagle. It was stolen during a move, so we had to replace it. The first eagle was purchased at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo for $399. We picked up this gem for $120 on eBay.

Alpacas are raised for their wool. They are not killed for their pelts because the alpaca wool is used for a variety of products from blankets to sweaters. Alpaca farmers raise and maintain the animals until they die naturally. Then, and only then, they use the pelts for these beautiful rugs.

You can find and purchase Alpaca Rugs all over the Internet. Seemingly they all come from Peru. I have seen many of these beautiful rugs at craft shows and festivals also. There are many different sizes, styles and applications available. So just about any taste can be fulfilled.

The material is all natural. Quality Alpaca Rugs are pieced together and then backed with a thick cotton cover for a seamless structure. The fur is extremely luxurious to the touch, very durable, and we have never had a problem with shedding.

Our eagle is a Rug, but I could never lay this beauty on the floor to be walked on, spilled upon, or matted by the tiny feet in our house. I have seen larger versions used as rugs or bedspreads though--to each his own.

For me, cleaning has been as simple as putting the extension attachment on the vacuum and removing any particles that may have landed on it. We've never stained our rugs, but they say removing stains is quite easy because of the nature of the product.

Since we purchased the first Alpaca Rug, I've been considering a bedspread. One day I may just buy one. If you've been thinking about buying one, you should. Pictures do not do them justice. You have to see and feel to believe.

If you have animal allergies, I would test with a small item before you invest in a large piece like this.
