So working on third shifts i'm pretty much a vampire! The schedule i'm currently on, i have a five day off run every few weeks and i like to reset my schedule and get back into a normal persons life again! You can imagine my sleep schedule is all over the map, and i do have problems sleeping at times.
I tried melatonin after reading about it, and that your body produces it naturally. So i took two one night, and about a hour after taking it, i felt pretty sleepy and went to bed. I slept for about 8 - 9 hours without waking up once... and when i woke up i felt great!
This isn't habit forming and seems to work great for me. It's very inexpensive and i recommend it for anyone who has problems sleeping!
