Because of the subject matter, I really hate saying that I loved this book, but.......I did! It is a book about a young woman Anna, and her life living in Germany during the Holocaust. It is wonderfully written and explores the relationships of Anna and her daughter Trudy and their struggles with each other and life. It goes back and forth from modern times to Anna's time in Germany. It gives insight to her daughter as to why her mother is like she is. Overlapping past and present. The characters are very real and this book just grabs you from the begining. It does deal with history, but the author does a wonderful job presenting a story of these two women and NOT making it read like a history book. I was hesitant to read this book as I thought it would be unbearably "heavy", and while it is a heavy subject matter, Jenna Blum was able to make it a compelling story.
