The Book Theif is one of those rare novels that you keep on thinking about for weeks after you have read it. The story is set in Nazi Germany where young girl named liesel who steals books. The plot moves on quite a bit but I don' want to give away too much as to spoil the book. However as you find out from the first few pages the narrator is death. Kind of like the grim reaper yet not as nasty.
It is written in a very alternative style where the writer (Markus Zusak) doesn't use a lot of description but writes about lots of little events that sum up to give you clear picture of what is happening. It's really clever and you can tell attention has been payed to the details. The Book Theif also underlines the importance of words and how Hitler used them in his attempts take over Europe.
This is a beautiful book that I will read many more times to come. I would liken it to Anne Frank's diary, both storys really captured my emotions and I think The Book Theif will go down as a classic. This is a must read for any book lover.
