2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

Share and Enjoy:

The 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse is still one of the sportiest cars on the road. I opted for the RS due to budget constraints, and added on a spoiler ($300) when I purchased it new in 2004. Financially, dealing with Mitsubishi was great. I was a first time car buyer and they found me the best loan and offered a recent grad discount.

The Eclipse looks phenomenal and is overall pretty sturdy. I feel safe in the car because it is large enough. Generally it is durable...I have had no major fixes on the car and it has been mine for 5+ years with over 100,000 miles.

The car does have some drawbacks. The interior doesn't hold up well. Small plastic parts come off. The transmission started acting funky at 50,000 miles and I still have no idea what is really wrong with it. The car is like a boat when you go to park it--so I would not recommend it to anyone who has to parallel park a car or fit it into tiny places. The brakes tend to go more quickly than on other cars; turning radius is atrocious (again, like driving a bus), and the handling doesn't feel like it should in a sports car. The car is also horrible in snow and not so great in rain, though it is better than other sports cars in these conditions.

While the car has a lot of minor drawbacks, overall it's very durable and pretty reliable as long as it gets the proper maintenance.
