Railroads! (PC)

Share and Enjoy:

Ever played "Railroad Tycoon", the original from 20ish years ago? Sid Meier's Railroads! is a remake of that game. It's simplified a good deal, but it's still awesomely fun. There is no real story, but you can load single player maps with scenarios in them from history (i.e, in a midwestern U.S. map one goal is to set up steel mills in Detroit and sending a lot of metal there). The maps are fun, but there isn't m uch replay value. The game has a very gentle learning curve, and it's easy to feel like a good player right away. The graphics are in 3d, and they aren't that bad. Like Civ 4, they stop looking good if you zoom all the way in, but most of the time you'll be looking at the big picture.

Starting up a railroad empire is great fun and very satisfying. It's a ridiculous amount of fun, but it will not last very long. It's absolutely $20 fun, but don't expect it to go much farther.
