Uniden TRU448 Cordless Telephone System

I originally purchased this phone to as a gift for a friend when their phone died, but eventually I inherited it as my own home phone when we decided to move in together.  The "phone system" itself consists of two handsets, one base station with a built-in digital answering machine, and one charging base for use with the second handset.

One of the most important features I look for when shopping for a telephone is the shape of the handset.  I can't stand trying to use a phone that is shaped such that the buttons press into the side of my face when I try to get the earpiece near my ear, and the microphone near my mouth at the same time.  Fortunately, this phone does not have this problem.  In fact, I think these handsets may be some of the most comfortable, out of all of the previous phones that I've owned. 

The range on the phone is decent, and I've never had any problems with reception inside of our house.  A few months ago I decided to try to test the limits of the range while I was on a call, by taking the handset outside and walking down the street until I lost the signal.  I ended up making it about two houses down the street (approximately 150+ feet) before the signal became too weak to carry a conversation.  I was pretty impressed with that.

The digital answering machine works well, but the control buttons are not labeled very clearly. Instead of word titles, they have symbols on them, which have been confusing at times when trying to cancel a message from playing without deleting it.

The phone system also offers some other nice features, like transferring calls between handsets, a speaker phone, various ring tones, a handset locator, and others, but we rarely use those options.
