Yule Log Platter

It is my understanding that JC Penney's is currently the only store carrying this dinnerware right now. It was once available from many different stores including Macy's and was produced by the International China Company. It is now produced by Portmeirion Studios. This piece is called the Yule Log Platter and is part of the acessories collection. Now I do understand that a Yule Log Platter is not a must have piece for everyone but if you are a collector of these dishes it is an important piece because it has a very important piece of the story printed on it. The words printed on this platter are "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!" The platter has the same trim around the sides with a green border and holly leaves as the rest of the set and features Santa flying through the night sky in a sleigh full of toys and being pulled by his reindeer. The background on this plate has a beautiful blue night sky instead of the more common white backgrounds that appear on some of the other pieces. The platter is 16 inches log so it will accommodate a good size yule log and makes a great cookie of cheese tray as well.
Every year for Christmas I make a desert called a whipped cream cookie cake. It is make from fresh whipped cream and Nabisco chocolate wafer cookies. When you assemble this cake you do it with the cookies stacked together and they form a long log shape which is a little like a yule log. I have never had a plate that could hold all the cookies in a row without having to double some of them up but this plate worked perfect and I even had room to spare.
