My Kalahari Away From Home....
Share and Enjoy:
Jack's Camp is one of those amazing places that you never knew existed, but then day dream about forever. I had the amazingly fortunate experience to spend some time in Botswana, Africa recently and Jack's Camp was on of our stops.
You can only get in by small private aircraft as the planes have only two options to land- a dirt strip about a half mile from the camp or the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans themselves on the outskirts of the property. It feels as removed from civilization as it sounds- peaceful, quiet and desolate like landing on a warm and windy moon.
Like a little island in the desert wasteland, the camp itself is far from "roughing it"! Each suite is its own tent, spacious and luxuriously decorated, right down to the Persian rugs and antique furniture. Indoor and outdoor showers are available for each tent and are situated so you never see anyone else there until you take meals in the main tent or go out for safaris. Each tent looks out over endless unpopulated African vistas.
Entertainment includes safaris ( of course), quad rides, bush walks and spending time with a small group of fellow travelers from all over the globe. I think the camp holds 20 people max.
If you aren't en-route to Africa anytime soon, at least check out their web site, the images are just incredible! www.unchartedafrica.com

This sounds amazing!! I have a friend who wants me to experience Africa so that I can understand the country and its people as he is hoping I'll write his family's history for him in a book he hopes to then publish - I will have to discuss this area with him and see whether it falls in the range of where his family is from. Thanks for this info - Africa is one place I am very interested in visiting!
