New Migraine Prescription-Treximet

Working at a doctor's office, I get to see all the new drugs as they come out.  This is a brand new one from the makers of Imitrex called Treximet.  It is basically a combination drug with Imitrex and Aleve (sumatriptan and naproxen), so it takes care of your migraine and any associate pain.  This is a good idea for me because when I get a migraine it usually stems from back or neck pain, so the naproxen covers the muscular problem. 

I'm trying this drug for the first time today, and I am very pleased with the results.  I took the drug and within 30 minutes my headache was gone-as a bonus, the back pain that I've had for the past week or so has been knocked down a few pegs, too!  As with plain Imitrex, I also experienced the side effects-I got very dizzy feeling and had shakey hands for a little bit.  I also felt like my heart was racing just a little and my sinuses were completely dried so it's a little uncomfortable.  As anyone who has migraines knows, the side effects are worth it if the drug takes care of the pain. 

So far I'm very happy with this drugit seems to work well.  In the past when i took Imitrex, it only worked the first few times I took it-after that it wasn't effective anymore. Since this is the first time I'm taking it, I can't say if it will continue to be effective. 

As with any migraine medication, I'm sure this is VERY expensive.  With any other medication, the drug makers try to create new versions of the same drug so they can continue to make money after the patent runs out.  Imitrex may be going generic in that case, so you might want to look into possibly getting the generic version along with naproxen and take the two pills togther to save money.  If you can , though, ask your doctor if you can try a sample until then!  Maybe this will be the cure we've all been waiting for!!
