The Dogfather by Susan Conant
Susan Conant writes the dog lovers' mysteries as well as the cat lovers' mysteries. This book, titled The Dogfather, is an entertaining story about freelance dog writer and trainer, Holly Winter.
Holly inadvertently gets involved with the Mob when she is "chosen" by the boss, Enzio Guarini, to train his Elkhound puppy, Frey. Holly is afraid to say no but does it on a volunteer basis, as she doesn't want to accept payment with dirty money. When one of Guarini's men ends up shot through the head during a puppy training session, Holly begins to wonder about the wisdom of her decision to help Guarini. And when the FBI start to look her up because of the friends she has been keeping, Holly really starts to question whether she did the right thing in taking on this task.
The Dogfather is a witty book, sort of like The Godfather with dogs. I have read an assortment of Susan Conant's other books and have enjoyed them all. This book I have in paperback. It is 259 pages long and enjoyable from beginning to end. Or at least it was for me.
If you like mysteries and are a dog lover, you will get a lot of laughs out of The Dogfather. To read this book is an offer you can't refuse.
