Blackberry 8830 World Edition

Share and Enjoy:

The Blackberry 8830 from RIM provides users to take the phone worldwide without having to change phone carriers.

The 8830 is RIM's first phone to use the "trackball" as opposed to the side scrolling wheel. This caused me many problems in my year and a half of use with it thus far. My first phone lasted about 3 months of use before the trackball became permanently depressed. This caused the phone to send my contacts several blank text messages as well as make many unwanted phone calls unless I kept the keyboard locked. After replacing this faulty model, I had about a month of use out of it before the center scroll ball failed entirely. I am now on my third phone and so far the scroll ball is holding up (5 months now!).

As far as the operating system goes, it works well until it starts to get any amount of messages, after which it starts to bog down. Occasionally the phone will freeze up while it decides to delete all of my text messages and emails from the phone, sometimes before they have even been read. I have been told from Verizon support team this is due to memory overload, however this has happened when the phone memory has only been at 60% use.

The lack of a camera results in not being able to recieve picture and MMS messages thanks to Verizon's "no camera, no picture message" rule. Browsing the web is slower than I would like, and lacking in support for youtube videos.
