A Magical sail on the Indian Ocean

Share and Enjoy:

For an ultimate magical experience, you got to visit Mombasa Island where this amazing Dhow sails through the Indian Ocean.
Tamarind Dhow is an ideal tourist attraction for its magnificent services as well as its eye catching beauty surrounded by Kenya's fantastic weather.

I had an opportunity to sail on this amazing beauty on my tenth wedding Anniversary.
As soon as you step down the gangplank a traditionally attired waiter awaits with a cheerful smile and a Kiswahili greeting of 'Jambo and Karibu,' which simply means hello and welcome. After that, he escorts you to your table and offers you the Kenyan traditional drink known as "dawa', which is a cocktail made of lime, honey, sugar, and crushed ice. Amazingly it tastes as wonderful as its description.
As the Dhow gently slips away from the jetty you are treated with a live African band and no sooner it starts, you fall under the spell of the magical Tamarind atmosphere.
With two sailings a day, you have a selection to choose from. A lunch or then a romantic candle lit dinner under the star filled sky... At lunch, you are shaded form the hot midday sun of the coast by a canvas awning.

The service given is as super  as the environment and the cuisine served is just fabulous. You have a wide selection of Sea-food, African and English to fulfill your taste buds.
The band is in full swing as the Dhow is gently sailing and the guests have great opportunities to take photographs of the island as they sail. At noon one gets to see the Fort Jesus, a museum no tourist would  miss  out.
The band keeps on adding variety of music like Arabic, English, Kiswahili and the deck is covered with all guests dancing.
The Dhow is almost 23 meters and it's also known as "Nawalilkher" and was built in 1977 for trading purposes. She happens to be the largest dhow on the coast and was purchased in 1986 and then converted for restaurant use and a great tourist attraction. The original builder of the dhow is Fundi Bini who resides in Lamu another island in Kenya.
As beautiful as it sounds this awesome creation is indeed a beauty and  a memory to cherish.
