Feminine Timepiece

Now this is the very definition of an oldie, but a goodie! This belonged to my great-grandmother Rose. She passed away when I was in the fourth grade and I miss her. I don't know too many exact details about the watch, so some of this is a bit speculative.

The watch is a silver-toned metal. It could be silver, white gold, platinum, stainless steel, etc. There are no indentifying marks like .925 or 10 KT. I am leaning most toward silver because of the watch's age and a feeling I have. There is beautiful etching on the face of leaves, flowers and dots. Around the side of the watch, there is a decorative squiggle. On the left side, a bit has been rubbed smooth. On the right side, it is more visible.

Under the glass right under the hands of the watch, there is a decorative pane which at first looks like, crushed glittery glass or metallic dust of some sort. When I hold the face at a different angle, I can see it is really a bunch of five petaled flowers. On top of that design is the Benrus logo. The hands appear black at certain angles, but flashes an iridescent blue at others. It reminds me of a dragonfly's wings and body. An enticing feature of the watch is that it needs no batteries. It is the type that you wind up, and then it works for an amount of time from that. I think more watches should be made this way. Sure, it seems like an antiquated way to do things, but it saves you money and it's green for the Earth.
