Oktomat Film Camera

Share and Enjoy:

Okay guys, It's been a long time since I've reviewed a film/"novelty" camera, so here's another one for you to check out. I decided to purchase the Oktomat from lomography.com because it was cheap, it's that simple. Lomography.com is an EXTREMELY cool website, but not all of their products are as inexpensive as the $40 fisheye camera I purchased a year ago. The Oktomat, however, is. Let me start by telling you about the appearance. This cute little camera is the size of a disposable camera. It fits nicely in the palm of your hand & comes with a handy wrist strap. It's mainly red, & it has a black viewfinder perched on the top. So far, you're probably thinking this sounds like a regular film camera, but you're wrong! Where you would usually find the lens, there are actually eight small lenses. Four on top, four on the bottom- resuting in an eight-in-one picture. It takes 2.5 seconds to take the photo, so you have enough time to slightly alter your subject. For example, if you're taking a picture of someone walking, you would see their legs in one position in the first frame, slightly different in the next & so on. It's kind of like a flip book, but still life photograph style. It takes 35mm film & is extremely easy to load for any of you first time film camera users. One of my favorite things about these little plastic cameras is the durability! I throw this in my bag all the time & I never have to worry about it breaking. Even if it were to finally break, replacing it wouldn't be a ton of cash out of my pocket. I highly recommend this camera to experamental photographers, lovers of film cameras, or anyone who wants to try something new & fun :)
