Step-over mini gate with Pet Door

Share and Enjoy:

I have a miniature chihuahua that is not yet housetrained, so I wanted to get a gate to keep him locked in the kitchen, but I knew that traditional baby gates were too high to be constantly walking over so i wanted something short and easy to assemble.

When I saw this mini gate with a pet door, I thought it would be perfect, so $40 later it was mine.  I brought it home began putting it together.  All-in-all it was fairly easy to assemble.  The hardest part was trying to get it secured to the doorway.

So, I got it up and thought it was perfect.  It was metal so it would hold up well and it was short so it was easy to walk over.

I left for a couple hours to run some errands and when I got back, my dog was gone.  It turns out that because the doorway I needed to use wasn't wide enough, I couldn't use the extension that came with the gate, so the gaps on either side of the gate were big enough for the dog to get out.  There was no way to adjust it so that the gaps became smaller so I ended up having to take the gate back to the store.
