Mossimo brand cargo shorts a little pricey

Share and Enjoy:

I needed a pair of shorts to fit my expanding waistline (ahem) and since these were for mainly around the house and chilling at barbeques or around the pool, I was looking to get something casual. Hence the trip to Tar-jay.

At the store their main shorts selection was Mossimo, so my choices were moderately limited, but that is okay. The Mossimo Mission Cargo short looked like the best bet, so that is what I picked up. The shorts come with lots of pockets and also lots of color choices. The colors included greens and browns, but I picked a deep cobalt blue/gray.

First off, I need to compliment the fit of these shorts. They work great around the waist and the pockets aren't very intrusive to the feel of the shorts. The seat of the shorts is also good. I also really like the color.

Here are the cons, though: first, the fabric is 100% cotton but don't expect a soft cotton feel. Call it rugged or somewhat rough, I've had softer jeans than this. Not a biggie though because it still feels alright.

The quality of the shorts is okay but not spectacular. There is some fraying and wrinkling that looks like it was poorly handled by the store or the product supply chain.  This was evident on most of the selection they had of these cargo shorts.

I also don't like the strap-like strings that come down from the bottom of the shorts. Not sure if that's a style look, but I wish my shorts came without them.

The biggest thing, though, was the price. Combining the fabric material and the quality of these Made in Vietnam shorts made me feel like the price should have been lower. $12 seems like a very adequate price but $20 for these shorts seemed a bit steep.

I'm not some haggler or cheap bastard, but I feel like these shorts were overpriced. But it was all that was available at Target and they fit really well so I took the hit and got them anyway.

Overall, a good cargo short for casual wear purposes but try to buy when on sale.

  1. Yeah, I think I'd pass out over $20 for a pair of off the rack, box store shorts, even with lots of pockets.

  2. My husband wore these Mossimos almost constantly in summer. He cut the strings off so there wouldn't be anything hanging. We paid $12.99 on sale at Target for his. They lasted for years. However, I had to really use fabric softener more heavily on them to get them to feel a bit more broken in.

  3. If you really watch, they sometimes have some crazy clearance deals on this stuff. Now the trick is finding it in your size when it happens

  5. Agree with you that the shorts are over-priced for that quality and made. Thanks for sharing this product with us.

  6. My hubby would not pay that price for the shorts, but they are the type he likes. Thanks for sharing the detailed information.

  8. my son tried a pair of Mossimo brand shorts on in their boys section and he hated them. They didn't feel right and he (and I) also hated that strip of cloth that came down. What the heck is that all about anyway???

  9. Do you think the fraying and wrinkling are part of the STYLE?
