Martin Chuzzlewit, a wealthy old gentleman, distances himself from his numerous relatives, suspecting them in being only interested in his money. He is quite right in his suspicions. Everyone around him wants to make their way into the old man's will - everyone except his grandson, also called Martin Chuzzlewit. Unfortunately, the old Chuzzlewit quarrels with him as well, and the young man is left without means. As the story unfolds, we see loyalties tested, true characters revealed, honesty rewarded, crime punished, and much, much more.

With the story being written by Charles Dickens, you can count on a good plotline, unexpected twists, eccentric characters, and of course humor. The two Peckshiff sisters, Charity and Mercy, are priceless. Their father Mr. Pecksniff is also quite a piece of work. What starts out as a decent and loving family disintegrates hilariously as the story unfolds, delivering a very impressive psychological study, if you stop and think of it. Highly recommended!
