I purchased the Nikon D50 digital SLR camera a few months ago. This is my first venture into the world of digital SLR's, and so I researched for months beforehand to get a grasp on the hundreds of choices there are available.
I chose the Nikon D50 for a few reasons: first, it is a great beginner's SLR- there is definitely a learning curve, but this camera is relatively user friendly. Second, it was in my budget; as far as SLR's go, I didn't need a professional camera, so I wanted something in the lower cost end to use to hone my photography before upgrading in a few years. Third, I wanted something that takes great pictures- and this D50 has certainly lived up to that demand! The better I become at photography, the better the pics become. Fourth, I wanted a camera body that was compatible with a large variety of lenses, and this camera gives me tons of options here. Lastly, I wanted something that I would feel comfortable using; this camera is heavy enough to feel substantial, but not awkward.
I have been completely happy with purchasing my D50; there are so many settings, that is does take a while to learn all the features, but I have had a great time learning. The manual that comes with the camera is very good- easy to understand, but I would recommend exploring all of the other photography books at your local bookstore or library to learn about becoming a better photographer.
