Acadia State Park
Acadia State Park located along the shore in Bar Harbor, Maine is a great place to take the family for camping or just for day events if you'd rather not camp. There are so many things to see and do at this easily accessed state park. Acadia State Park used to be the summer resort for the wealthy, it receives a lot of tender loving care to keep it in great condition; plus it has a many great restaurants! There are also free shuttles from Bar Harbor to many of the locations within the park; it certainly does help keep traffic down and allows everyone to view wonderous views.
There are hiking trails to fit all capabilities, carriage trails, horseback riding trails, swimming beaches, kayaking, sight seeing and look out points that are just breathtaking!
There are many restaurants located in the park, one not to be missed is Jordan's Pond for High Tea; served in the British tradition. High Tea is served in the mid-afternoon and you have a choice of different beverages and it comes with 2 popovers; you will need reservations to ensure you will get a table as it is a very popular spot. One of the pictures I've included was taken by me from my table; the view is just breathtaking.
The other pictures were taken from the top of Cadillac Mountain within the park, it was of sunset and the moonrise. Facing west you can watch the sunset in spectacular glory and then turn around and watch the moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean; the reflection of the moon against the water is incredible.
One of the nice things about being so close to Bar Harbor is the ease of taking the ferry over to Nova Scotia for a day trip. You don't need a passport for this trip just birth certificates and a valid ID.
