1997 Subaru Legacy By Amy Nil on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Yes, I drive a car that is over 10 years old. Does it feel that way? Not at all.
When we found out that we were expecting, we knew that the sportscar had to go. It no longer went into reverse or 5th gear. There was no heat, and I kept a huge container of oil in the back just so that I could keep it going. There was also the issue of putting a car seat in bucket seats...
We wanted an affordable family car, but did not want a big SUV or minivan (just a matter of personal preference). When a Subaru came up in my husband's company classifieds, we jumped at the opportunity.
All used cars are different, of course. I am happy with the amount of space we have, the gas mileage (we get about 23-25 miles/gallon), and how nice it is to drive. We feel safe in the winter with the 4WD, and have not had any repair issues (aside from routine maintenance). The current mileage is 94000.
Overall, if you are in the market for a used car, but are looking for something affordable, I wouldn't pass up and older model Subaru. We have been very satisfied with our experience.
Subaru Legacy Purchased at: used Price: 6500

My family swears that if you are buying a used older car, it better be a Subaru or a Toyota, because they keep going on forever.
Sounds like a terrific family car and I think 10 years old isn't too bad! (says the woman who's cars are 21 & 18 years old, lol).
Sounds like a great family car. The gas mileage is better than an SUV and probably a minivan. I'd consider a Subaru in the future as they do seem to last forever!
Yay for good gas mileage and more room than a sports car!
Sounds like a nice station wagon maybe they will improve gas mileage on the next one.
subaru has a great life and are dependable vehicles
I miss my Subaru and hope to get one again one day.
