2006 Subaru Impreza Outback AWD
By Melissa Bushman onI purchased my 2006 Subaru Impreza Outback All Wheel Drive (AWD) new in the summer of 2006. My husband and I were moving from Pennsylvania to a remote area of Wyoming, and I needed something that would travel well on the rocky dirt roads where we would be living. In addition, I wanted a vehicle that was attractive. This car fit the bill.
I noticed immediately that the Subaru Impreza Outback was both comfortable to drive and comfortable to ride in as a passenger. The driver's seat can be adjusted forward and backward, up and down, and reclined back and forth to the desired comfort level. I personally drove this car more than 2,000 miles across the country on a four day trip, and I must say I was impressed with the fact that I remained comfortable throughout the journey.
This car has certainly taken a beating since we arrived in Wyoming. I must travel more than three miles of rocky dirt road every day just to get to a paved road. I travel additional rock/dirt roads when visiting my sister, my mother, and friends in the area. Most of these roads are incredibly rough, some with washboard surfaces, and others with very large stones and rocks. This car travels it all with ease. In addition, the AWD (All Wheel Drive) feature of the Subaru Impreza Outback ensures trouble-free travel through snow and rain.
Roominess is another great feature of the Subaru Impreza Outback. Since we live in such a remote area, and the price of gas keeps climbing, I try to limit the number of trips to town, which is a 45 minute trip one way. The vast amount of space in the back of this car allows me to stock up on groceries and other items and transport them effortlessly.
This was my first Subaru purchase, and I must say I am extremely pleased with my 2006 Subaru Impreza Outback AWD. I highly recommend this car to anyone looking for something stylish yet rugged.

Subaru are everything you wrote and more. They are very nice.
I have been overall impressed with the Subaru brand, however the huge recall on the head gaskets was really disappointing and worrisome since the fix may not be a good enough fix... We are worried about a potential major expense should something happen after the warranty period. I am unsure if all Subaru's were effected or if it was just one or two.
Subaru has been a wonderful brand for me. My 1998 Forester is still going strong.
Bosoxy - I had not heard about the recall on Subaru head gaskets, so I did a search. It looks like it only affects a few models. In my experience, most brands of vehicles end up having a recall for one thing or another. While I would not let prior recalls deter me from purchasing a vehicle, I do believe it is important to be aware of them. Thanks for your comment and thanks for letting me know about the recall!
This sounds so roomy & comfy & most of all, reliable for you!
I've always liked Subarus too. It seems like they last forever -- hundreds of thousands of miles -- and can handle whatever kind of road they're on!
Sounds like a tough and durable vehicle!
If the world came to an end tomorrow, the only thing left would be cockroaches and subarus! They run forever!
2,000 miles across the country on a four day comfy trip !!! That is enough to put the Subaru to full test and it speaks how good Subaru is.
Sounds like a great car! Thanks for sharing!
