5 Arm Chrome Lamp By snackbandit on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

My mother got me this lamp for my dorm room. It's cute an matches the decor, and provides a lot of light (handy, since the overhead light in the room is pretty pathetic). It's five 'arms' can swivel and twist so you can direct where you want the light to be, and the switch allows you to turn on two, three, or all five bulbs at one time, depending on how bright you want your area to be.

The big problem I have with this lamp is that it gets hot; as in, scary hot. The plastic shades heat up so insanely fast, I'm scared to leave it on too long. I usually switch between the two light setting and the three light setting, so the bulbs have some time to cool off. Also, it's a bit short, the main pole only reaches about four feet high, though the arms add about an extra foot to foot and a half.

Anyway, if you're going to purchase this lamp, be forewarned that it does heat up very quickly. However, the adjustable arms are nice for concentrating or diffusing the light as you wish. I wouldn't recommend this for a child's room, as they might leave it on and cause a fire hazard.

Thanks for the heat warning, sounds like it would be a handy lamp to have otherwise.
