50's Style, Forever Function
By Eggy onThis Penguin Ice Bucket has been passed from one generation to another within my family.Actually, my family always called it the 'Polar Bear' for some reason I don't understand. There are Penguins all over it.
It was manufactured by the West Bend Aluminum Company.Honestly, I alway thought, and still do, that it was made of stainless steel.
We use it to hold ice for making drinks at parties.Since Asians are not too big on cocktails, it is nice that the ice bucket is completely sealed and when the ice melts it does not leak out.
The Penguin is well insulated. It could also be used to keep things warm.It would probably be okay for keeping chili or soup warm.
This ice bucket is well designed and very appealing to the eye. There is a pattern of marching penguins across the top. The bottom of the bucket is stamped: West Bend Penguin Hot & Cold Server, A Product of West Bend Aluminum Co. It is 8 inches high and the opening is 7 inches in diameter.
My Penguin Ice Bucket meets my needs.

Eggy- I have this very same item. It was a wedding gift to my parents in 1943!
Gosh, I remember these from when I was very little, haven't seen one since!
Very decorative dish, I wouldn't even think ice is inside. looks more like something to hold food!
