A Bed: Fit For A Queen Or A Tween By dsnygrl on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
When my daughter moved into her tween years it was time to redecorate her bedroom into something a little more grown up. She wanted a queen bed instead of her twin so we looked for one that she could use through her teen years and then take with her when she has a place of her own.
On Overstock.com we found the Contour Canopy Queen Bed and Frame. It is a black matte finish metal bed with a beautiful scroll design. We chose the black matte finish because my daughter is hard on furniture and it matched the decor in the rest of our house. I was nervous about ordering a large piece of furniture with out seeing it in person but she really has her heart set on getting it.
Overstock.com has some of the best shipping prices on the net. The total cost of shipping was $2.95. The order arrived in less than 1 week. When we were unpacking the boxes to put the bed together, we saw that the package containing the screws was torn open and we were missing most of them. I emailed Overstock about the problem and the response I got back from them floored me. They said before they could do anything since it was a furniture purchase, they had to send someone out to my house to inspect the piece and determine what to do. WHAT? All I needed was a few screws, nothing else was wrong with the bed. I thought there must be a mistake so I called and got the same answer, I even spoke with a supervisor. Being someone who does not take poor customer service lightly, my husband did some online research and got the phone numbers for Overstocks corporate office. He called and worked his way through the food chain until he got the Vice President on the phone. He told him the story we had gotten. The VP said it was a ridiculous answer that we had gotten for a simple to fix problem and took our information. Two days later our screws arrived.
Once the screws were here, the assembly of the bed was easy. The bed is sturdy and beautiful. The curtains that are pictured on the canopy were purchased at Ikea for under $5.00 each. They add a nice softness to the bed for my daughters teen years and when she's ready for a more grown up look, they can easily be removed or switch out for a different color.

Now, that's a beautiful bed! I'm sure your daughter loves it. Overstock.com has some great products and shipping is cheap. I'm glad they stood behind their product and sent you the missing screws.
Wow, I would have loved to have a bed like that when I was her age..shoot I would love to have one now lol. I just don't think my husband would like the canopy, haha.
The bed is just lovely! I would love to have one like that right now! However, like the comment above, my hubby probably wouldn't like it. Our bedroom is the one room I have agreed to have a more masculine look and I don't think a canopy is part of one, lol. However, there is always hope if I get a divorce....lol.
That bed is beautiful and can definitely go with her as she grows up. That you had so much trouble getting the missing screws to you is completely ridiculous! I'm glad your husband took the time to get to someone who could do something for you. Maybe that will make it back down the food chain as I am sure the CSRs were only doing what they were told to do. The supervisor on the other hand should have been more willing to assist you. I am astounded by the shipping price!!
Corporate stupidity is alive and well in America! How utterly frustrating it is to have to deal with paid morons. Your hubby sounds like me. If I get too many wrong answers I go straight to the top. Once in awhile, there actually is a brain inside the talking head:)
That is a lovely bed. I can't believe what you went through with Overstock, though, what a pack of dimwits! I hate dealing with customer service people who are that unhelpful. I hope your husband's conversation with the VP trickles down to those who answer the phone. I've only bought relatively small things from Overstock, because their return policy seems a little harsh. I'm glad you got the bed, though!
Gorgous. I've looked at stuff on Overstock but never ordered from them....guess that's a good thing
Very beautiful bed, I do believe it would be fit for anyone. Like you I prefer good customer service. Although, I have had no problems with Overstock.com, I know that others have. Your hubby did the right thing and it is something I would do as well. I have no patience for customer service people who do not know their jobs or who are rude to customers. Thanks for sharing this information.
It surely look like a bed fitted for a queen, thanks for sharing the experience,
