A Gatlinburg Vacation By Georgia Sawhook on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The best time of year to travel to Gatlinburg, Tennessee is in the fall. This is when the Fall Festival is. Pumpkins, gourds, scarecrows, and more are ALL over the city in every nook and cranny. Then, of course, nature itself puts on its own elegant show with the turning of the leaves and the cool crisp air in the mountains. I love it. The town of Gatlinburg as well as Pigeon Forge are always busy with a flurry of visitors. We especially love the German village in the town of Gatlinburg. At the Donut Friar, you can get any variety of fresh baked donuts and a variety of specialty coffees. For great family eating, you can't beat Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant for the best of wonderful home cooking or Bennett's Pit BBQ for the smoked and pulled pork and ribs. Yummy!!

We stay at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree Resort on Historic Nature Trail located at Light #8. It has a number of adjacent buildings to the hotel and we had stayed at one of the other buidling last year. This year we will stay in the main hotel because it is much more accessible to the restaurant, pool, workout area and more.

As a whole, we had a great time and are returning again this October. Can't wait. Especially for the shopping. Whoo pee!!!!
