A Good Nights Sleep
By allie63078 onEarlier this year, I broke my foot & my doctor prescribed me not only pain pills, but he also gave me a prescription for Ambien since I was having so much trouble sleeping.Well, I took the pain pills, but I forgot about Ambien sitting in the medicine cabinet.I forgot about it that is until recently when I started having even more trouble sleeping. So,I dug them out and I decided to take one of them one evening.
Now, I have a lot of trouble with allergies, so I have to take a benedryl every night.Let's just say that I found out the hard way that Benedryl doesn't go with Ambien really well. The first night I took the two together, I had some funny side effects but nothing to crazy.Basically I was laying on the bed looking up at the ceiling fan and it looked as if the fan was dancing around. It was like I was in a haze. After a while, I fell asleep and the next morning was fine.
The next night, I took 2 benedryl because my allergies were especially bad and again I took an Ambien. That night, my husband told me that he had to physicall hold me down because I was having some serious hallucinations.I even got up and walked around outside our bedroom.Again, after a while, I fell asleep & didn't remember a thing the next morning.
Finally, the next night, I just took an Ambien by itself.I didn't have any funny side effects other than getting extemely drowsy & lethargic very fast.I fell asleep really well & slept most of the night, but I found this night, as in the others, that by early morning (3 am or so) I was wide awake and had a hard time getting back to sleep.
So, what did I learn?Ambien does help you get to sleep pretty good, but it wears off & can make you not sleep through the night. Also, do not take Ambien with other meds...hallucinations can occur. Also, something I forgot, a prescription of Ambien is expensive (I think it was like $60 at least).

I take Ambien to help me sleep. I won't take it even if I've only taken an aspirin for a headache as I don't want any side effects. Glad nothing serious happened to you! I do find Ambien puts me to sleep in less than half an hour and I don't wake up until my alarm goes off. If I do get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, I have no problem falling asleep again. Thanks for sharing your experience.
