A good undercoat
By Johanne onI just did some repairs in my house (I want to sell it and it will help). Before I always took a water-based primer because I then tought that the alkyd one would prevent me to paint with latex over it. Well, I was wrong, you can put either latex or alkyd over it. I have learned and experienced that an alkyde primer is much better than a water-based one. It has a better grip on the wall and have less chance to do bubbles as it happened to me with water-based primer. And when THAT happen you are less than happy becaure you must redo the sanding and prep all over. Not funny at all. I can tell you that never again I will use a water-based.
I bought Prime Time, reasonnable price and very good adherence.
The only brawbackd I can think of is that you have to wash your brush with thinner. It doesn't smell good. But that's minor.

Rats I should be using this. I think the paint I have from Wal-marts is not the best.
i agree with you when it comes to painting a house. but, i also paint murals and anything else people want and I love my acrylic paints. But I totally agree with you. I hated painting my house so much, I got siding put on a few years ago. i voting
I always use a primer before I paint. The water based ones have less smeel that the oil based ones do and dry faster but for tough areas the oil based ones are a must because they are thicker and cover better.
I don't paint but have heard from others that water based primers are better than oil based because of the scent.
I knew sometimes you needed a primer, but thats as far as my paint knowledge extends! Thanks for the info!
I have never heard of this brand, but it sounds like a good one. Thanks for sharing your experience with this product!
Sounds like this is a good primer, too bad the brushes have to be washed with paint thinner, that stuff does smell badly.
