This great book A Good Wife by Betty Neels is about a girl Serena who gave up everything to take care of a father who does not apreciate her and after the passing of her father after he left her absolutely nothing in his will, she is offered a proposal from Ivo Van Doelen a doctor that she met sometime ago in her village.

She accepts the doctors proposal of marriage as a convenience because her older brother who inherits her fathers house refuses to give her a home, but unknown to Serena the doctor had already fallen in love with her before his proposal of marriage but did not admit as much to her because he did not want to scare her off.

Betty Neels has taken two people from totally different backgrounds and brought them together in love, even though it takes Serena a while to figure that she was in love with him and they had many, many disagreements along the way it was a very enjoyable ride for two people in love.
