LaCie has a reputation for making sleek, sexy hard drives and other devices, this 1TB external hard drive is no exception. The hard drive itself is incased in a glossy black case, with a well placed blue light, located near the fron on the underside. Normally when I see something that looks as good as this, I have to question whether it is "all show, and no go," however, this mobile storage device has performed great for me as well as being a nice addition to my desktop. This model features a fanless cooling system, which surprisingly seems to dissipate heat relatively well. This hard drive has a maximum data transfer rate of 480Mbps, and like most hard drives nowadays it supports USB 2.0, which is a necessity for transporting large files. It is still compatible with USB 1.0 however, that is much slower. This external drive is not something that is meant to be portable, and if portability is your goal, then you should look elsewhere. With its square shape and fairly large dimensions, it is very impractical to transport. Mac users will be happy to know that LaCie has made this compatible for Macs as well as PC's. I have had this drive for a while now, and have only had one problem, albeit a moderately serious problem, but only one. I am hoping that in the long term this hard drive will continue to work well, but even if it doesnt, it sure makes a heck of a desktop ornament!
