Reviewing: Vizio P50 Hdtv20 A
Purchased at: Wal Mart     Price: $1,149.95 USD

Once we received our income tax return, we decided to get a new television. My wife and I knew we wanted atleast a 47 inch, and either a LCD, Plasma, or Rear Projection. We checked the various stores and, initially, looked mostly at the three S's - Sharp, Samsung, and Sony. While their pictures were good, I felt the cost was too high for what I'm getting. It was then I remember reading about Vizio, and how they were quickly becoming a great midrange HDTV manufacturer.

After looking at their LCDs and Plasmas, I found this gem of a 50 inch. It's 720p/1080i, which is more than enough for most people's needs - most cable/satellite's hi-def signals are barely 720p, and unless you're running Blu-ray or HD-DVD most won't need 1080p. It has a nice, glossy black finish except for the silverish speaker grill at the bottom. It also comes with a wide variety of input/outputs: 3 HDMIs, 2 Components, 2 Composites, 1 DTV(Cable), 1 Optical Audio, 2 analog audios, 1 S-Video, and a DB9 port for a PC connection.

All in all, I love it. It's a fantastic picture and the price is hard to beat. We've been using it to watch standard DVDs (upconverting them) and streaming some video from the PC. Like I said, this isn't your top of the line set, it's definately midrange, but it's priced like a low range. A great plasma TV.

What a good way to spend your tax return $$. :) I agree, Sharp and Sony are just too expensive, although of course very good. But there are more affordable alternatives, like this one.
