I have owned three Dustbusters in the past 10 years. First a 9.6 volt, then a 14.4 volt, and now an 18 volt one. I think it might be like a drug tolerance where users find it necessary to use more to get the same result. No that was a joke... Actually, since I use my Dustbuster a lot I think it is worth having a decent one.

Since my previous Dustbuster slowly lost the ability to recharge; the main decision factor for buying this one was that it has easily replaceable (even if expensive) batteries. I also am hoping that the big beefy battery will last better than the smaller one on my previous vacuum. Using the replaceable battery packs is particularly good if you have other Black and Decker tools which use the same format batteries (watch for my future review on B & D Electric Chainsaws).

My new 18 Volt Platinum Series Cordless Vacuum is more powerful and louder. The louder noise makes me feel like it cleans better (and it does).

I keep my Dustbuster in the kitchen and use it about twice a day. It did not come with any attachments, but I have a crevice tool from my old Dustbuster which I like to use so I don't need to bend over as far when picking up crumbs from the floor. You can also buy accessory attachments from Black and Decker.

The main operational difference from my old vacuum is that the battery pack must be removed from the vacuum to insert into the charger. Also, while it would have been possible to wall mount my old vacuum (I never did), it is not possible with my new one. I find these differences a small price to pay for the replaceable battery and increased power.

The Volt Platinum Series Vacuum has a fairly solid feel. It is easy to empty and cleaning the filter can be done by simply hitting it on the ground (outside the house). It has a 'Full Two Year Home Use Warranty'.

I am very happy with my Black and Decker 18 Volt Platinum Series Cordless Vacuum.
