Reviewing: Children's Book Love You Forever

I purchased this book on the advice of a friend when my three boys were toddlers. My youngest son, Tommy took a particular liking to it.It even surpassed Good Night Moon as his favorite bedtime story.

Written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw it tells the story of the Love between Mother and Child. It starts with the son as an infant and follows him through toddler, little boy, teenager and finally as an adult and all the trials and tribulations of each age.At bedtime each night, no matter what occurred during the day the mother rocks him to sleep and says to him "I'll Love you Forever, I'll Like You For Always, As Long as I'm Living, My Baby You'll Be." She even goes as far as to go to his home when he is an adult and sneaks into his house and repeats the line while he is asleep.

The story has a wonderful ending with the mother and the son changing places as she grows older with the son rocking the mother and saying to her "I'll Love You Forever, I'll Like You For Always, as Long as I'm Living, My Mommy you'll be, the son then returns to his own home and picks up his newborn daughter and says to her "Ill Love You for Ever, I'll Like You for Always, As Long as I'm Living, My Baby You'll Be."

My son spent his junior year of high school in Japan as an exchange student and when I had an opportunity to talk to him on the phone or via instant messenger he always closed his conversation or IM's with "I'll Love You Forever."He took the book with him to Japan and read it when he was homesick.

A great book to read to your children to let them know how much you love them.

My son was born in 1986, when this book was first published. I began reading to him practically from day one. This book evolved into our favorite bedtime story over the years. Today, he's 22 years old, and it still is something he occasionally will pick up, as I have it on my bookshelf, awaiting for grandchildren. It really is a beautiful, simple story about enduring love. Plus it does actually help you the Mom through the tough teen years. It's very poignant at the end, with the reversal of roles, which is what is happening with my mother and I. And my son sees it as a natural event. I'll love him forever.
